ABOUT

ABOUT

Joel Lindberg is a media composer, orchestrator and cellist from Skellefteå, Sweden, now based in Los Angeles, California. Recently, he worked as an orchestrator and copyist for Classical Uprising, working on Mozart's Requiem Renewal which was premiered in Maine this fall.

Joel recently graduated Summa Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music, as a World Tour Scholarship student doing a Bachelor of Music in Film and Media Scoring. He was chosen as the spring 2024 recipient of the Michael Kamen Award, and as one of the 2024 winners of Berklee's Commencement Processional Composition Competition

Before studying in Boston, Joel studied classical/contemporary music composition at Gotland School of Music Composition in Sweden, and was top of his class studying Jazz & Contemporary Music Performance on cello at Dublin City University in Ireland. Additionally, he has been awarded the Anders Sandrew Scholarship to fund his studies—one of Sweden’s largest grants for young artists and creators—in recognition of outstanding musical achievements.

At Berklee, Joel began his session cellist career working for the Screen Scoring Department. He also worked as the Public Relations Manager, Event Coordinator, and Principal Cellist for the college's largest student-run ensemble Berklee Motion Picture Orchestra, awarded the 2024 Campus Program of the Year Award during his tenure. He received career mentoring from Vivian Aguiar-Buff, Director of Music at DreamWorks. Additionally, Joel took the competitive Advanced Orchestration course, where only 6 out of hundreds of screen scoring students are selected each semester. Through this course, he had the opportunity to do score preparation for first-ever Grammy winner in the video game score category Stephanie Economou.

In April 2024, Joel's film music arrangement for full symphony orchestra and choir was premiered at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In the spring of 2023, Joel was the student of lowest semester level to be selected for the Screen Scoring Department's most prestigious opportunity BerkleeNYC Power Station Studio Project in New York City. He has also played cello in projects involving successful Hollywood composers such as Alan Silvestri and Pinar Toprak during previous semesters, and had his original music selected to be performed at the Boston Independent Film Festival spring 2023.

Additional credits include being the music composer for various projects, such as the dance production Svallarna i Skogen at the North Sweden Opera, and playing cello in the international Nordic Youth Orchestra. He worked on scoring for short film during the fall of 2023, set to be released later in 2024.
